Shelly Baird School in partnership with families, Kings County School Districts, our community, and other agencies provides comprehensive expertise, education, support, and services for Kings County students (3 – 22 years old) with complex and intensive educational needs.

Currently, Shelly Baird School’s main campus operates 3 preschool classrooms and 10 special day classrooms. We also offer 19 satellite classrooms integrated on general education campuses.

Our team includes highly qualified teachers, specialists, para-educators, psychologists, nurses, clerical staff, and administrators. Each plays a vital role in reaching our goal of delivering the highest quality instruction to every student we serve to prepare them as valued and contributing members of their family and society.

An Individualized Education Program (IEP) with goals connected to the California State Standards is designed for each student. The IEP’s emphasize functional skill areas, including language and communication development, pre-academic/academic skills, social skills, community interaction, daily living skills, vocational skills, and leisure and recreation. Students receive related services as needed, such as adapted physical education, vision support, hard-of-hearing support, occupational therapy, speech therapy, physical therapy, and assistive technology services.

Our school focuses on protecting and nurturing personal dignity, ensuring health and safety, and promoting understanding of each student. We help students in achieving their highest academic and unique personal potential.
